    Difference Between Mixture and Compound

    Mixture Compound
    1. Nature:
In a mixture, two or more elements or compounds are mixed, such that they do not combine chemically
    1. Nature:
In a compound, two or more elements unite chemically.
    2. Structure:
The mixture does not have a definite structure.
    2. Structure:
    Compounds have a definite structure.
    3. Composition:
In the case of a mixture, their constituents can be present in any ratio, i.e., they have variable composition.
    3. Compositions:
In the case of a compound, the constituents are present in a fixed ratio by weight.
    4. Properties:
The constituents of a mixture retain their individual physical and chemical properties.
    4. Properties:
The properties of a compound are entirely different from the properties of its constituents.
    5. Separation of constituents:
The constituents of a mixture can be separated by physical means.
    5. Separation of constituents:
The constituents of a compound cannot be separated by physical means.
    6. Energy changes: During the formation of mixtures, no energy changes take place, i.e., it is a result of physical change. 6. Energy changes: During the formation of a compound energy is either absorbed or released, i.e., compound is the result of a chemical change.
